Check out the latest Vid on Tiger Lily. Mid November 2011 and the Bass are running...so is the sea!! Long time Tiger Lily Anglers, Basingstoke Piscatorial SAC show how to get em!
Here's a smashing little clip of a 16lb Undulate Ray being released alive back to the sea. Can you believe it, The Chief Fisheries Officer in our district Mr Ian Carrier still says 'there is no proof that catch and release works' What's this then Ian, Scotch Mist!?
Tiger Lily is returned to the water on Portland Marina's 50Ton Hoist after her spring re-fit and anti-foul...
July 2008 this time and having just had Chilli Con Carne for supper aboard Lily, Ben (Padawan) Boutin from La Rochelle in France and I decided on a spot of Bass fishing in the late evening sunshine. After a little tuition from the your's truly I was demoted to the video camera whilst Ben knocked out 13 lovely Bass one after the other using a variety of baits on his 12ft pole. Not bad for his first visit to the Island.
The clip shows just how to do it in a little over 2 minutes start to finish...poetry.
I must tell you that I spent a very enjoyable few days in the company of Trev Osborne (aka Shrek) and friends in early September. The weather was great and the boys had a great time fishing the reefs and banks around Portland.
Shrek goes Fishing, sums up the crack the boys had and shows some of the many species they caught whilst fishing.
The pic on the right shows Shrek with a recently wrestled Blonde Ray from the Kidney Bank.
A real treat happened in April 2010 when myself and the lads from the Woolston Trades & Labour Club were fishing a wreck in mid-channel for Pollack...a schoal of about 12 Bottlenose Dolphin joined us and started paying around the boat for ages...luckily I had my video camera with me and this little 4 minute video is the result.
The pic on the right shows Common Dolphin riding Tiger Lily's bow wave on a different day...
It gets better...It's November 27th 2005. Jim O'Donnell has just given me some of the new Calcutta Shads to try out and I can tell you they work pretty good. Watch This... Bassing in the Portland Ebb Race Not a place to be in good weather and today it's blowing 4/5 North Westerly. The Bass are there but it's just a bit tricky to stand up, let alone with a video camera jammed in your eye...take a look.
This one is new... Turbot & Brill Fishing from the famous Schoal Bank situated between Alderney and Sark. Watch Byron Jones, Dick Dale, Ben Prosser and Gordon Richards get stuck in to the big flats! Here again, you will need a Broadband connection to view it.
Why not check to see if you're not one of the stars in this slideshow of some of Lily's best?
Filmed during the second week in October, the video shows how the critters turn colour and squirt water and sometimes ink at you (great fun) Carefully handling the net is Black faced Bill White (Knocker) and the anglers catching the squid are Antony and Kevin.
Here is my quick recipe for cooking squid...
Melt some butter in a Wok or Frying Pan, add chopped Chilli's and crushed Garlic to taste, then add finely sliced Squid (two handfulls only as it will cool the butter too much) to the very hot butter and keep turning for about 2 minutes...the squid should look light brown in places. remove from the pan and place in a dish and add corriander and black pepper and squeeze lemon on top...enjoy
Just For Bob is a film in which I have put some of my favourite clips over the last few years...it shows action from one of the Conger Comps together with skippers Brown and Stantiford as well as my old mate Bob Sawyer who sad to say is no longer with us. Dirty Dereck with his 'chumming machine' and even me cooking up scallops and Chirizio for Shrek, Colin Laker and his chums after a hard day's Plaice fishing. Good music too....
Pictured right is Bob with a smashing spring Pollack.
It's February 11th 2007 and the beachcombers are out on Chesil Beach. There is a big ground sea running and with the wreck of the container ship 'Napoli' not far away, the locals are out looking for freebies!..check out the surf in this short clip.
If you want to see what happened when Weymouth Angling Centre owner, Andy Selby, invited a couple of novice ex workmates down for a day's Conger Fishing aboard Tiger Lily, then this is the place.
Just for a chuckle...tell Andy that he was quite fetching when he had some hair!!! (see pic right)
Talking of a good crack...a bunch of Suffolk Beach Anglers who are totally mental, made the trip across the Channel with me this year... their antics were captured on video of course...turn up your speakers to this one, its called Andy G and the Urinators
On a more recent trip out of Weymouth, Andy's boys were in fine form once again...Andy's video camera was thrust into my hands and I was told to shoot what came up... Not many fish were netted, well I can't do it all! This film is called Andy G's Pollackers
